Burnley Council Ramp Installation
Outline Vision
The client could not access the outside of the property due to the height of the existing door threshold and step and the fact that they were wheelchair bound. Therefore, it was proposed that a metal modular ramp was incorporated to go down the drive finishing where the driveway slopes away. The requirement would also include upstands and rails as part of the adaptation all the components where to be galvanised.
Provision
We were approached by occupational therapy working in conjunction with the client on behalf of Burnley Council to provide a solution. After the initial assessment and quotation, a set time frame was organised and the adaptation was clarified to be as aesthetic as possible whilst retaining usability, safety and causing as little impact as possible to other house dwellers.
Visage
The ramp needed to be semi-permanent suitable and sufficient for purpose, therefor the following specification was adhered to, the supply of a 1200 x 1200 platform and 900 x 1200 sectional ramps and 900 x 300 ramped “toe”. Upstands and guard rails to cover all sides of the ramp and the ramp to avoid the services on the right-hand side of the property.
Outcome
The finished solution of ramped egress and access incorporating rails provided an ideal result for the wheelchair bound house holder enabling them a degree of independence to improve the quality of their life. All the components were manufactured in house at our work unit and were bespoke to the individual property. The project was completed as cost effective as possible and the outcome provided the client, the occupational therapist and Burnley Council with a very satisfactory solution.
